Supporting our Community

We received funding from the North Yorkshire Council Locality Budget to host two community events.  The first, in June, was an Afternoon Tea in the Methodist Church Hall for anybody in Ayton or the nearby villages who found it difficult to get out and about. 40 people enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with company, an abundance of homemade cakes, savouries and sandwiches. The hall was made to look very attractive, the tables laid with checked cloths and flowers on each table.  The choir from East Ayton School provided the entertainment and there was lots of laughter and chat.  For this event we also had the generous support of the SPAR shop in East Ayton.

The second event was on 23 October  when Mark Lacey from North Yorkshire Trading Standards came to talk about spotting, avoiding and reporting telephone and email scams. Once again this event took place in the Methodist Church Hall and was attended by 25 people who shared experiences and asked questions. PCSO Ria Lockey was there too to offer advice and support about scams and other types of fraud.

Transport was provided for each event for people that needed it. We are very grateful for all the help and support given by library volunteers and supporters to make both these events such a success. Watch out for similar events in 2025.
