Derwent Valley BRIDGE Library

Covid-19 Update

Good News !!!

The library is open from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. until 1p.m. on Saturdays.

Customers will be able to sanitise their hands when coming into the library.

One public computer is available for half-hour appointments and printing and photocopying will also be available.

Our Select & Collect service is still available for those who would rather not visit the library.

In addition to select and collect we shall also be making up ‘pot luck’ bags of withdrawn books to offer to readers for a donation.

We understand that some people will still not be able to visit the library at the moment due to ill health, shielding, or carer responsibilities, so we are pleased to be able to offer our Home Library Service. Books can be selected by the library team and delivered to your doorstep free of charge. We will also collect any library books from your doorstep to return to the library on your behalf.  Please telephone the library during opening hours if you would like to use this service.

You can contact Derwent Valley Bridge on 01723 863052 or email: derwentvalleybridge@gmail.com

You can access free e-books, e-audiobooks, online newspapers and magazines in addition to reference resources such as encyclopaedias, Grove Art, Grove Music, Who’s Who and family history records from webpage https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/digital-library

More than just books…

In 2011, residents of East and West Ayton and nearby villages in the Derwent Valley converted the energy generated by an unsuccessful campaign to save the local library from closure into a positive project to deliver and run their own community resource.

Derwent Valley BRIDGE opened its doors in May 2012 and continues today as a valuable village asset as a result of this vision and commitment. It has developed in line with its name, the BRIDGE, which stands for BOOKS, RESOURCES, INFORMATION, DIVERSITY, GROUPS, EDUCATION and chosen for its proximity to the historic bridge linking the villages.

The BRIDGE is operated entirely by volunteers and offers more than just books! Take a closer look at what we do or, even better, come and join us as a borrower, friend or volunteer….

We look forward to welcoming you!
