Slipper Social

Last month we held our Slipper Social – a wonderful community event that allowed people to pop into the library to get a free pair of slippers as well as meeting up with others for a coffee and a biscuit. Studies have shown that a good fitting pair of slippers can reduce the risk of older people falling by up to 60%.

In total, 112 people attended the event with 49 of them collecting a new pair of slippers. The event provided so much more than just the practical distribution of slippers. It was lovely to see some of the older members of our community along with family and friends making the most of the library and spending some time with others.

“It’s been lovely to come out and meet other people locally who I haven’t seen for a long time , and it’s wonderful to receive new, good quality slippers.”

“I can only get into town once a week, so this has been lovely. I’ve been able to catch up with people, and the slippers make me feel much more confidant. Thank you.”

A huge ‘Thank you’ goes to our wonderful volunteers who worked hard both before and during the event to ensure that everything ran smoothly and that we were able to help as many members of our local community as we could.
